Interview with Irene Cisneros, new Interim Principal

August 5, 2016

Can you tell us a bit about experience?

IC: I've been with APS for 17 years.  In that time, I have taught Special Education grades 9 thru 12 as well as Science, Math, English.  As an administrator, I've been at AHA for seven years, the previous four years at Sierra Alternative as the Dean of Students.

Give us some thoughts on your new positions.  How does it feel to be leading such a huge school?

IC: I am honored and excited to take the helm as your interim principal as Atrisco Heritage has been my home for several years.  I look forward to continuing the focus of the AHA mission and vision.  I look forward to supporting authentic teaching and learning while continuing to use the school and district initiatives.  I believe in students; I believe they all can learn and be successful!  I know we have a staff and faculty that goes above and beyond their daily duties to engage, teach and encourage students to be great.  My goals are to build relationships with students, their parents and staff, continue to partner with our feeder schools and the community, and ultimately help students become outstanding contributing community members.

What do you believe your biggest challenges are?

IC: Currently, my challenges are to get the largest high school in the state of New Mexico enrolled with a smooth beginning on August 11th.  As a new principal, each day I will be faced with challenges and each one will be at different levels of intensity and I am blessed with a great team.  Every team on campus is awesome.  Each team of administrators, teachers, custodians, secretaries and ancillary staff are hard working, knowledgable and creative thinkers who student centered.  With such a great crew, the challenges will become successes.

What are your one or two top goals in this new position.

IC: My goals will be to utilize our resources in attendance and in the Student Success Center to facilitate more success with our stakeholders of the AHA community.
